Off to Mr. Jefferson’s Capitol for 2 Months! Staying Connected: District Update #2012-01
Dear Prince William Neighbors,
Next week, I will drive from Woodbridge to Richmond for the 2012 legislative session of the Virginia General Assembly, which opens on January 11th and concludes on March 10th.
This year’s agenda will be full, the tempo rapid, and the issues weighty. As I leave town for Mr. Jefferson’s Capitol, I wanted to alert you that I will be absent from Prince William County for two months—but as close as your telephone or computer keyboard. As a general rule, I’ll drive home every Friday evening and return to Richmond on Sunday, so I will be available for any in-person meetings or events that you may desire.
After my legislative assistant (Ryan M. Galloway) and I are settled in the Capitol next week, we’ll send a follow-on email to residents of Prince William County with a link to an on-line survey about forthcoming legislative issues. I need your inputs and ask that you provide us with the wisdom of your thinking.
During our time in Richmond, we’ll conduct at least one telephone town hall with citizens of Prince William County. During that time, I’ll brief you on issues we’re working, and you can ask questions and make comments. Think of it as a teleconference with several thousand of your neighbors!
I will also conduct at least two in-person citizen town halls on selected Saturdays when I’m back home (one in eastern PWC and the other in western PWC). We’ll send out a notice and advertise in local media, so I hope you’ll join us for a community conversation.
Each week, I’ll send you an email report on our activities in Richmond, and you can in turn email or call me with your views and suggestions. I’m instantly available by email, whether on the House floor, in a committee hearing room, or in my office. You can also track the status of legislation on the Virginia General Assembly Website.
If you are involved with a school, club, or organization and want to visit the Virginia State Capitol while we are in session, please contact us and it will be my privilege to take you on a personal tour of Mr. Jefferson’s Capitol, which was originally constructed in 1788. Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, and other American heroes served within its walls during the founding of our Republic.
One last thing: If you are anywhere near Richmond from January 11th to March 10th, please stop by my office (Room 406) in the GAB (General Assembly Building), located next to the Capitol. Our welcome mat will be out, and Ryan will be waiting to greet you if I’m on the House Floor or in a committee meeting.
If you need to reach us during Session, our Richmond number is 804-698-1051. My email address is DelRAnderson@house.virginia.gov. Ryan’s email address is RGalloway@house.virginia.gov.
Thank you for the privilege of representing the 51st House District at home and in Richmond!
Warmest regards,

RICHARD L. ANDERSON
Delegate, 51st House District
Virginia General Assembly
